Greetings from a new member/old lurker...

Hello!
I've been enjoying the regular read and nice pics of some fantastic coins on here for quite some time. I thought it might be time to finally join in on the fun.
A bit about me
I have collected many different types of US coins at one time or another and, to some extent, still do. I am now living in Australia and am building a bit of a collection here too. (Be nice - I really am an American from way back - first line of us arrived in Philadelphia in 1732). Moved here so my wife (ultimate souvenir from final USAF assignment) could be with her family.
Anyway, retired USAF and glad to be a member.
I might post a pic or two once I figure out the logistics...
Indeed.

Glad to have you on board mate.
What did you do in the USAF?
Wouldn't trade it for anything!

it never surprizes me some of the ol american treasures that can be found down under
someday you'll have to tell us about local finds...the coin shops...general us coin collecting in aussie land
by the way it seems alot of pre 1930's american motorcycles made pilgrimage there too as i'm amazed the amount early henederson's found down under...so it wouldn't surprize me much if alot of pre 1930 ms coinage rests there too

<< <i>WELCOME - I'm looking forward to see some of your coins!!
Don't get too excited just yet... sold of all the really cool stuff about 20 yrs ago, so I could start collecting antique Winchesters. With the atmosphere today, shoulda stuck with the coins (Would have been better off financially for sure!). Had good sets of (80% complete in Danscos) of Walkers, Franklins, Morgans and approx 60 diff. varieties of Capped Bust Halves, with a few bust dimes thrown in. After that, I got into early copper - Lge Cents, Half Cents and a dozen or so colonial coppers. None of these were ultra rare or expensive. In mid-80's dollars, I would try to keep them less than $100 per coin, that got a few nice ones. I was living in Omaha at the time and there were a few really good dealers I had gotten to know.
I hope I don't offend anyone, but I never really liked the thought of a coin sealed in a plastic slab and have never owned one. I see the reasons for it and have been very tempted, but the only ones I was drawn to were a LOT more than I could justify spending.
Now, what I have is mostly "modern crap" (as it is sometimes referred to). Having a family has changed my priorities a bit.
I started putting together two sets of Uncirc ASEs when they first came out and still add new ones each year. I wish I had been doing that with Proof ones as well.
I'll have to look through what I've got and see if anything is worthy of posting here.
Hopefully, here is a test pic... 1828 Half Cent 12 Stars
Thanks in advance!

So far I haven't made any real exciting US finds, although I did find this in a local coin/jewelry shop. I still haven't found out much about it, but I think it's a game counter of some sort. Made of brass, I believe. Payed $15 Aus for it as a curiosity.
Sorry fo rthe small pic. It's all I've got at the moment. It says - 1849 / "Model Half Eagle" and it's about the size of a dime.
Any ideas?
after you upload...just copy from the 2nd line...then paste directly into this box
someone will probably know this piece
I just bought my first Australian coins a couple months ago at the St. Louis show. Now, I think that I'm getting hooked already.
In general, how do you like living in Australia?
I knew it would happen.

Be patient with the link thing. You'll figure it out sooner of later. I found it better to not use the built-in loader in this board. It's a simple cut and paste operation from a "third party"-web hoster like Photobucket. Someone suggested them and it's worked for me. Just copy the IMG file and paste it into the block where you are typing your Reply to the forum. You have the option to preview, so you can check your work prior to posting. Simple...
b cool...
You can use www.photobucket.com also for free image hosting. Just sign up for an account and upload your pictures. Once they are uploaded, copy and paste the forth link under it [IMG CODE] directly into your post.
Modern Crap still can take decent pics....
