older slab questions

I've been out of the game for a while. It has quickly become apparent the premium PCGS has over NGC at equal grades (90+% of the time in my opinion, please don't get hung up on this). Does that hold true if the NGC is a fattie. It appears people seem to give these older slabs more credibility, so does the fattie bring it up to a PCGS equivalent? What about an NGC "*". Does that command the same price or even a premium to a PCGS coin? Do fatties seem to crossover easier? If you had a "*" coin would you cross it? Are "*" coins typically a lock to cross at same grade or better? Thanks in advance for your opinions. Please leave the kool-aid in the fridge and answer objectively.

on ngc *'s...they have their own base of collectors and i find it amazing just how much they can trade for as the majority of ngc *'s are for toners and the price of toners is beyond me...some *'s won't cross due to some toning/color
most ngc *'s aren't cracked or crossed i would think
all in all alot of variables exsist

the answer is that you seem to have little interest in coins, but alot of interest in pla$tic. so your best bet is to stay outta the game

Thank you for the warm welcome. I feel a part of the gang already.
I've never sold a coin for the $. I've only ever sold when upgrading/trading. Having said that, IMHO in this economy it would be prudent to have a liquidation plan if needed. My questions revolve around that. I do buy the coin (trust me) but you also may have to face the reality of unlocking your coin's fullest market value. I hope we both are blessed with the good fortunes to be able to hold on to our collections forever.

I don't think he's as interested in the plastic as much as he's interested in the validity or value of the grade on the plastic. A lot of folks can't tell the difference in a 1 or 2 point spread in grades and this fellow obviously wants his coins in PCGS plastic so he's just asking about crossover results with regard to specific types of NGC plastic.
It sounds like he currently has NGC coins and is wondering whether or not he should submit them for crossover.
My advice is to compare what he currently has in NGC plastic with whats available in PCGS plastic. If the grades are equivalent or if there's a significant difference then cross em over.
With that said, I'd also recommend keeping some of those "fatties" around to sell to the Slab Generation collectors as you just never know when the fatties will fall into the same category as the "Black NGC" slabs. Those things bring rediculous money!
