Stupid question on these Irish coins. Which side is the obverse? The side with the harp? I have them in slabs from PCGS - sometimes they come back animal side up sometimes harp side.

Awesome coin with decent toning.
That is one very nice coin that you've got there.Ireland was not actually a republic in 1942,but a Dominion of the British Commonwealth with King George VI of Great Britain as King of Ireland until 1949,when the Republic of Ireland was finally declared.

That is one very nice example of the Irish 1943 1/2 Crown that you've got there.There is a mule 1/2 Crown that was struck in 1961 & the 1967 1/2 Crown also exists with a polished die reverse.Both of these coins are also pretty scarce as well.

On all modern Irish coins,the obverse is always the side depicting the harp.This includes the Irish Euro coins,apart from the 2007 Treaty of Rome 2 Euros,whose commemorative design appears on the obverse.
