It was a very nice run

Early this year, a gentleman from the west coast offered his circulated, seated half registry set for sale on Ebay. He offered it in, what I thought, was a rather unique way. He sold the entire set year by year, one year each week, each auction ending on a Sunday night. He started with 1891 and worked backwards.
I thought that approach generated more interest and probably a better price. I know that I looked forward to each Sunday night hoping to win one or more.
The set was mostly graded 30-50, with a few exceptions primarily for the keys or common dates. They were nicely matched in strike, color and luster. A beautiful set. He sold almost all of the set on Ebay excepting a handful which he sold on Heritage. If, by chance, you're reading this, thanks for making that beautiful set available
So, last night was the end of the set. He had 1840, 1840(O), 1840-O and the final coin in the set, his 1839 w/drapery. Prior to last night, I had won 6 of his set including 2 that I had been actively trying to find for a few years. I had my sights set on both the 1840 & 1839. I bid strong on both, well above the PCGS retail price guide and couldn't touch them..... sorry to say.
Evidently, I ran into the original Mr Deep-pockets. I looked at a bit of the winning bidders history after the auction and I must say I'm impressed...A pure buyer with 6200 Ebay feedbacks over about 3 years. I looked at about 20 of his winning auctions and everyone was a coin I would love to own (not to mention expensive).....6200 times...I didn't stand a chance.....anyway, if Mr DP is reading this, congrats and I look forward to the next time...
The search goes on, it sure was fun

Those that say the economy is in the dump, and coin prices have crashed, haven't been buying any Seated coins.

I know the buyer to which you refer. They've bought many high dollar coins from me over the last few years and are definitely not afraid to step up to the plate. Oh, and it isn't a "Mr".

The same seller sold off his Barber Half Dollar collection year by year as well. Working backwards from 1915.
I was fortunate to pick up a half dozen AU 58's from that collection.

Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !

Great way of selling a collection and going over a few of the coins that were in the sale, a very nice set
