Note the slab says "100% White." I wouldn't have thought it would have turned in the holder so uniformly with the paper being only at one side of the coin.
Edited: D'oh! coinman420 just said that. OK, what he said, then.
The holder, and environment, does tone the coins in the old PCI "100% white" holders...I've got a couple. One that is a lesser rainbow version like the one in the auction for this thread.
That said, Cheezhed, you mention milk spots. Help my tired old eyes on this 8 year old monitor....where do you see milkspots in the coin in the auction?

I was about to make this same comment. The old PCI holders caused toning on "white" silver, usually purple or dark orange (almost rust color) like coinsarefun's 1987 ASE, or some combination of the two. I have a Mercury dime in a "95% white" holder which is completely toned in purples and orange, as well as this Washington Quarter with the rust-like toning on the obverse:

Incomplete planchets wanted, especially Lincoln Cents & type coins.

I could get a bust half dollar in F15 for that. I could fill another hole in my early commem set for that. Some people are nuts. Its not that hard to duplicate that color on bulion silver. Thats just dumb!

There are enough of the PCI ones that are labeled "100% white" that have toned like this that I sincerely doubt they were gassed in the holder the MoC way.

The coin is pretty though.

I like mine better though.

Very nice target toned Eagle.
Maybe I should send all my ASE's to PCI, just a thought.

I think the white inserts are doing the toning! plus the right environmental conditions. Very interesting
Please excuse the other dogs on either side of the eagle.

Definitely the case. I've got a couple of PCI ASE's labeled "white," and they no longer are, even in Integrity Shield boxes.
