Whats the difference in these 2 64' Kennedy Halves?

Both of these 64' Kennedy's are Philadelphia Minted. I initially didn't think twice about them, but upon closer inspection they have very different looks both in strike and in color.

The one on the left has a very frosty appearance on both the obverse and the reverse. It also appears to have a somewhat soft strike?

The Kennedy on the right has cartwheel luster and the fields are much more reflective. It also has a much more detailed strike on both the obverse and the reverse.

I have individual shots of both of them if you would like to see those as well, but I will initially post the side by side's that I took.

Is there anything here worth noting, or is the difference in appearance caused by each coin being pressed at a different point in the life of a particular die? Or is it just pocket wear? Any help would be appreciated as in hand these 2 coins looks very different. Sorry ahead of time if the pictures are a little grainy and don't do enough to show the great contrast between the 2.

The one on the right was struck with an early set of dies, you can tell the difference on the reverse and notice the lines that are broken when they intersect with the stars above the eagle, this reverse die is the original design. (often associated with the diagnostics of the Accented Hair variety of 64 proofs, the obverse is not of the accented hair variety) the one on the left is a later die series. Many do not realize that the mint struck Kennedy half dollars with the 1964 date well into 1966 to meet demand for these coins. (if I am wrong on this somone let me know but that is how I understood it to be.) As far as I know there is no premium for this type but it would be nice if PCGS would recognize the die variety. (like they do for the Ike dollars)

    hey texas,

both those reverses are the same as it was on proof dies a difference of dies were used and they stand out.
one thing i noticed on the 1st die is the shields top points...the outter 2 points are rounded some and the second die has pointy-points

these examples shown here are one in the same
