Anyone built (or building) a Dansco Album of Silver Eagles?

Thinking about doing it as it would be a fun cheap way to keep busy between more expensive coin purchases. It is getting to the point where the last few coins I need for my peace dollar set and dansco type album are all pretty damn expensive. I thought maybe working on a Dansco Album of Silver eagles would be a fun way to keep busy in between opportunities of buying other coins. Then when I finish sell the whole thing on ebay to recoup a bit of the cost. Has anyone else done (or are doing) that? Was it any fun or just boring? Where did you get the coins? When it was up to date did you like it to keep or just want to get rid of it?

I did a while ago, for just the reasons you mention. I could fill a hole for $15-$20 pretty easily.

I got most of the coins on eBay. They all turned out to be nice.

I never actually finished, I ended up selling the partial set to someone who wanted to finish building it themselves.

Was it fun? What do you normally collect?

I have one..complete except for the 2008's...it was fun putting it together as I would just buy one at a show...which was great if I didn't find anything else to buy. And like you mentioned, inexpensive.

Could be a fun way to collect.

Here's an interesting proof coming up for auction.

We have 2. None have really toned (one is in Dansco and the other Intercept Shield). I liked them at first and so did my son. But, they start looking "plain" after awhile since the design hasn't changed, they are blast white, and large.

Now, I have been thinking about doing one of TONED SAEs image
(NT of course). Sure wouldn't look plain.

Also thought of doing a PCGS registry set of toned SAEs....would be a bit harder though and likely to be full of MS67 and MS68. I have a starter set though image

I think I'm going to work on the "toned SAE" set as well... I just purchased about 10 toned ones from one seller across several years. In thier specific packaging and/or where it was stored, some of them have some very nice toning.

I'll have to post some pics...but off hand does fingerprint toning add/detract from the value?

    Thanks,

I have a Dansco set in the SDB. It will belong to my daughter one day. I get the coins from any dealer selling them in January each year

well, c'mon ......somone post a picture of one of their pages! I think I'm gonna do this.

I got the Dansco book for the president dollars for the same reason, but it hasn't been much fun because I just buy a mint set and proof set for the current year, throw the dollars in, and spend the rest of the coins. (Though spending proof coins is FUN!)

Andy, fingerprints, that are noticeable, detract for me (and others). I think one or two of my toned ones have it as well.

I have a completed Dansco also. Pretty inexpensive to fill, I agree. The most expensive was the 96' that cost me $50. I have always liked the SAE's and that was the main reason I filled one. I would like to get a complete set of proofs one day. Minus the biggie of course, can't afford that one.

image Some are much nicer than others. That was all the shots I could find,
at one point I had them all photo'd but the photobucket album fills up way too fast.

I had 2 of them but I sold 'em when silver hit $20.

Boring or fun? I found them boring really. Same design, every year. I'll always remember when I finished my Indian cent album. I was soooo excited to finally fill all the holes! Then it sunk in... Huh, they're all the same, how boring. So I sold it.

You want fun? Try a Dansco 7070 album.

Here are some of the toned ones that I just received... I just noticed the milk spots on some of them... The 1997 & 1999 look like CSI was dusting for prints!:

I like the ASEs but I like the Brittanias better because the designs change every other year.

I have one. I pick up a proof and (now) a W-unc every year from the mint and and UNC from somebody on-line. I like handling the coins and popping them into the album- nice and heavy! I'm complete except for (obviously) the 95-W. Call me crazy but I even put in a reverse proof. It is a nice complement to my (complete) PCGS PR-69 SAE collection.

2 complete unc albums with the 08/07 reverse.

Some are starting to target tone. Rather have them tone then sit in plastic.

    Just my opinion.
