Jerry Farrington to Russ Logan to Dennis Tarrant to Barndog

I was fortunate enough to purchase this half dime a few years ago at the FUN Show. Dennis Tarrant was with Jade Rare Coins back then and I stopped at his table. He had this neat, raw half dime sitting in his case. Dennis also had some notes with the coin and an old ANACS label. The coin came from the Russell J. Logan Collection, sold in 2002 by Bowers and Merena (lot 1764). Logan had purchased the coin from Jerry Farrington in October of 1994. Although the coin is currently entombed in PCGS plastic, I keep the information about the coin in a flip taped to the reverse of the slab. (the ANACS label isn't in the pic, sorry about that one). Great history, special coin. And Dennis sold me the coin for less than the price on the Jade tag image

Neat story, great coin. Reminds me of Tinker to Evers to Chance.

Great, we need to start a new club, lets see I count 3 members, you , me and barndog and that's about itimage
Can you have a club with only 3 members? >>

Add MrHalfDime, JrGman, a good Dr. in TN, a somewhat odd collector in the North West and a suit wearing gentelman in Ohio for starters. That puts it at 8 image

p.s. a good coin is a good coin, regardless of who owned it, but knowing who those who preceeded you almost always is helpful.

Ah yes. I remember that little half dime well. I actually had several pieces from the Logan collection around that time, and had the privilege of handling a couple of LM plate coins prior to that show. I can tell you that it was easier to acquire such pieces a few years ago. A few collectors *cough*on this forum*cough* have drained the supply of special half dimes. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.

That is a really nice looking LM-3 that you got for less than $350! Wow- very cool coin and a very nifty story to go with it.

Great looking coin Barndog with a great story.

Would that one be considered an early or middle die state ? I don't see the die cracks as mentioned in the LM book ?

definite early die state. Note how the LM book uses the word forms when talking about various die cracks for this die marriage...meaning the cracks formed during the striking of the die marriage. So some coins will demonstrate none of the cracks, some will demonstrate one or more, and some will demonstrate all of them
