Out of the entire year, what is the best weekend for a local coin show....

...so that it doesn't interfere with regional and national shows?

What time of year would you like to go to a local show? Is there a time of year when there is a "lull"?

Our club is thinking of changing the date of our show (the weekend before Thanksgiving) to a different date because it conflicts with Baltimore. We would like to stay away from winter months due to the possiblity of snow around here.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I am VP of the Watchung Hills Coin Club in Warren, NJ. We have our club show in March of every year. Each year the turn out has been fantastic. 2009 show will be March 8th.

Here in northern NJ, the local clubs seem to have their shows either in October-November or March-April.

Obviously, the first step is to make a master calendar showing the dates of the national and regional shows to see what weekends are least crowded.

Today was a bad day for a coin show around here.

The local shows are usually at the State Fairgrounds. This weekend, there was a model train expo, a cheerleading competition, the normal flea market that is usually there, a horse auction, and a coin show. WAY too crowded.

In Omaha, I'd think a good time would be a weekend in conjunction with the College World Series.

i would think late February through March would be a time not interfering with a major show and suffering.

For many collectors, the summer is a time for anything and everything except numismatics, but once the summer is over, many yearn for a return to the hobby. Hence, many successful coin shows are scheduled for the early fall months, particularly October and November.

In order to avoid a conflict with other local coin shows (which can be nearly impossible), look for those months where there might be five weekends in a month instead of the usual four. Scheduling your coin show on the fifth weekend can often help you avoid potential conflicts with other shows.

I would, of course, avoid the holidays, such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter.

Be sure to check the Coin World and Numismatic News Show Calendars when scheduling your coin show, to avoid possible conflicts.
