I wonder if ebay screwed me in reverse?
Last week I listed some cards in an auction format and the only option Ebay
had for payment was paypal. I wonder if some people that do not want to use paypal
did not bid on my auctions thus costing me and them money?
Not wanting to see these auctions get poofed by adding in the description that I would gladly
take checks or MO I let the auctions run the way ebay allowed. At the time I was unsure
if I even could accept checks and MO's.
Only 1 person has emailed me and asked if I would take a MO, my response was yes.
Ahh the new ebay.

for offering to accept paper payments.
On January 15, EBAY claims, such listings will be poofed.
.............
Since EBAY claims that about 90% of payments are already
PayPal, the change should not be a big deal.
Sellers can still accept paper, IF the buyer requests/insists.
If the percentage of paper-payments is too high, EBAY will "investigate."
................
Sellers should impress on buyers that buyers DO NOT need a PayPal
account to pay with a credit-card, via PP. (After a buyer makes 10 payments
without opening an account, they will be "invited" to sign-up; if they
refuse, they will likely need a new EBAY ID and email-addy, to pay via PP.)
...............
PP is an extremely UNSAFE payment method for sellers. There is NO protection
against scammers. BUT, if the PP-Rules are followed perfectly, there is a good
chance that transactions will go well.
As a PP-only seller for a long time, I can say that it is really the best way to go.
Always payed with money orders and my feedback shows that the sellers received payment very quickly. Now with the change I refuse to have a PayPal account and even though the rules say that I can ask sellers if they would take a money order (unless they have changed it again) I am a last second shopper (always browsing items ending soon) and there is no time to ask that question and get a reply so my shopping days there are done.
It's kinda sad as eBay turned me back onto the card hobby after leaving it in frustration around 1994 (to much product and was just burnt out from it). Was able to find items I had always wanted plus met a few nice folks along the way but it's their playground and they make the rules so people can either do as their told or leave. I left.

I'm VERY selective where I use a credit card and it won't be on there.

Nothing taken down but I just listed some items two days ago and for the first time in the little block where the seller can checkoff whether accepting money orders or checks, those blocks were no longer there.
I believe ebay stated that they weren't going to "enforce" the new rule before the holiday season ends, but I think they said something about "expecting" sellers to comply with the new rule around mid-January (January 15th? as you noted) - Whether that "complying" means delisting seller's auctions - It probably does mean that, or at least bot warnings will be issued for awhile.

I hear you.
Lots of folks use the prepaid cards from WMT, to fund their PP payments.
I have some cards with tiny limits, that I have linked to PP. If somebody
gets them, they won't get much. (Cardholders are, of course, not liable
for such unauthorized uses.)

from an old listing.
There are NO reports of takedowns, at this time.

When I was doing the invoices some had the option others did not. None were relists.
All were told in the invoice that checks and MO were fine too.
One person emailed with 1 hr left in auction asking if I would take a MO.....

I thought the "rules" were that the team that won the championship would be immune from such derogatory comments until the start of the next season.
