I’m on the horns of a Numismatic Dilemma—do I bring an extra YN to CoinFest with me?
I have written here before that Mrs. Longacre is jetting out to sunny California on vacation during the weekend of CoinFest, to bask in the luxurious and posh climes of Ft. Irwin, CA. One of her friends happens to also be jetting out alone on vacation to spend the weekend at a very expensive spa and resort in Scottsdale. As a result, your sniveling wimp Longacre is left watching three rug rats, and my friend is also left watching his three kids.
I also indicated that I have a few choices with the CoinFest show. I can either take my kids, hire a baby sitter to watch the kids and go alone, or leave the kids in the care of my 7 year old, and take the babysitter to the show.
At one point, I was thinking of inviting my friend along to the show, but I decided against it, based on the responses on these boards. However, my friend’s wife indicated that their oldest son, also 7 years old, might have an interest in coins, and might want to attend the show.
Here is where my Numismatic Dilemma sets in. Knowing this kid, I also believe that he is a budding numismatist. He is very cerebral, and collects Pokemon cards like it’s no one’s business. He trades with his friends, and reads things like crazy about Pokemon. He just seems like the type that would take to coins.
Should I just suck it up and take him with me to the show, along with possibly taking my kids? I might have the opportunity to start him on a lifelong journey in numismatics, so I don’t want to blow it. Or should I ignore the opportunity, and possibly have a loss to numismatics and furthering the hobby? What do you think?
PS. Maybe if I take him, I can squeeze another free buffalo nickel out of SeaEagleCoins.

"Keep in mind that most of what passes as numismatic information is no more than tested opinion at best, and marketing blather at worst. However, I try to choose my words carefully, since I know that you guys are always watching." - Joe O'Connor
<< <i>I know my dad has missed some chances to do what he wanted to do by taking me to shows but I'm sure glad he did.
I believe you have your answer, Longacre.
