I think I prefer the OTT lights with a bit of daylight mixed in.

I'll see your bunny with a pancake on his head and raise you a Siamese cat with a miniature pumpkin on his head.

You wouldn't believe how long it took to get him to sit still for this.

Those differences are amazing, especially considering you used a little bit of daylight.

did you measure how much daylight? I like the results of your formula.

No measurement but it was VERY indirect daylight.

With the Peso, daylight with Ott light looks closer in hand.

With the Twenty Dollar, the Ott lights only, look closer in hand.

I think Ott lights are overrated.

As for what I think of the pictures, it looks like the white balance is different in the two pictures, which should be what's accounting for the color difference between the two shots in both cases. The addition of daylight gave you less contrast on the coin, which made the details stand out in the highlighted areas of the peso better, and made the fields of the double eagle look better. Take a look at the histograms of the coin parts of all the images and you'll see the Ott-only peso has much more at the high end, while with the added daylight it is much more balance. For the double eagle, the Ott picture has more at the low end, with the other picture being more balanced.

    Mr DUIGUY,

I prefer the second set of photos, but quite candidly I think you are using lighting (i.e. some daylight) to overcome poorly set white balance (the first photo is way too cool/blue) and poor OTT light position/distance (which causes the hot spot on the right side of the dress).

I would focus on white balance first, otherwise you'll be continuously "playing" around with lighting (or post-processing) to overcome the color cast when you should try and get it right in-camera (through a custom white balance). Once your white balance is dead on, then experiment with light position. Lastly, start playing with different light types.

    Respectfully submitted hoping to help...Mike
