Coin show report: Elgin Coin Club, Elgin, IL

Hey guys, I often read the show reports others post and enjoy them, so I thought I'd write a short one. I attended the Elgin Coin Club show today. It's a smaller show in the Chicago suburbs. We arrived at 9:30 am and upon entering entered a couple raffles (maybe I can win that $5 gold piece!) and then hit the floor. There were maybe 30 tables, but there was quite an assortment of coins, both classic and modern. I've been toying with the idea of starting a circulated Capped Bust Half set, so I was on the lookout for some reasonably priced, problem free examples. My friend was on the lookout for a few Mercury Dime dates for his Dansco, but unfortunately didn't find anything that met his standards. I, however, was lucky enough to find a spectacular XF 1830 CBH. It was crusty and gorgeous and just begging to be bought. Thankfully, the seller was asking a very reasonable price and soon we struck an accord and my CBH collection began! (Beware the sickness, I know). I'm sorry that I don't have pics at the moment, but I will try to add some soon. Back to the show: It seemed to be pretty well attended...or at least I had to park far away. There were a number of YNs there along with a (I'm guessing) married couple that I noticed because I overheard the wife saying, "Well, how long is this going to take?" She did not sound happy. As far as business taking place, I saw one check being written for some paper money...not sure of the amount...in the high hundreds from what I overheard. I didn't see much else other than what I bought, but I was only there for about 45 minutes. I did see a few want lists out, Lincolns and Buffalo's mainly...not even necessarily the key dates, but anything in the teens and twenties with a mintmark seemed to be in demand. Lastly, I didn't see the typical huge amount of Morgan Dollars. There were some of course, but oddly, the coins I saw the most of were Large Cents. Just about every date between 1794 and 1857 looked to be available. All in all a fun show which proved to be the launching point for my CBH collection!
Positive BST transactions with: too many names to list! 36 at last count.

Sounds like a fun, if short, time.
Funny thing about guys who bring their wives to coin shows, I mean the ones who don't like coin shows... Can you just imagine if that husband were to say the same thing at some event she insisted that he go to with her?
I mean...she would tear him up...
Thanks for the report! (I'm glad you took the plunge and posted one!)
The only suggestion I would make is to break your text up into a few paragraphs (it's easier to read).
Hey Larry - I'll take a wild guess: I bet you're not married!

I definately relate to that! My wife went with me to the Tucson Coin show this weekend. I never felt so rushed in my life. After the first fifteen minutes I started hearing: Are we almost done? We already looked at this booth! Etc, Etc. When I went with her to a doll show last year, I spent 3 hours there, and did not dare utter a word of complaint.
