For the Ike guys/gals. 71S unc Peg Leg/DDR

My latest eBay purchase(came in today), the 1st Peg Leg (DDR) that I've found. Back to this piece, my scanner makes the toned obv look dark and ugly; it looks a hell of a lot better in hand. Check out my post on BST.

    Wow!

    Very nice coin.

Was it sold as Peg Leg?

Thats a nice Straight Pegleg which is always characterized by the DDR Reverse which can be clearly seen in your scan as doubling on DOLLAR.

I saw that coin on eBay and was really intrigued by the wavy stuff on the obverse. At first I thought it might be die clashing but the pattern doesn;t really match anything on the reverse.

Any ideas what it might be?

I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    The name is LEE!
  • It's not clashed Lee; it's either stained, toned or both(toned after some sort of spill). The sellers pic, that you provided, shows the outline of a spill; I may dip it before submittal.

  • John, clean it up as best you can, then decide if you want it in a PCGS holder unattributed (you'll just confuse them if you ask for FS-401 attribution, and you may get a casual higher grade if it's submitted as an ordinary 71-S Silver).

Otherwise, ANACS and ICG are the only TPGs I know that will put Wexler's or Wile's catalog number on this peg leg and even then you will probably have to send it in with copies of the relevant description from either book.

I'm hoping to get this "Straight Peg Leg" into the next CPG - along with the FEV and the PPL. Then you could re-sub to PCGS to get the attribution.

    GREAT CHERRY!!! Rob

  • Thanks Rob, dip it I did; very happy with the results. No, I don't want to confuse PCGS with a Peg Leg that has a DDR; hell, they've yet to attribute the 71D RDV-006(your FEV).... I'll be sending it to ANACS for the attribution.

I don't think PCGS will attribute your coin as the FS-401 since your coin and the FS-401 are two different coins.
