I would NOT have guessed that coin was a roll coin. Neat.

  • I had three 1938 Lincolns with that crazy blue/white toning from being stored in tissue paper for 50 years. Sent them with a group of other coins and they were BBed for AT. image

    Your coins look terrific!

    Sweet looking!

I see a lot of nice toning on 1945 cents, might be the shellcase alloy?

    That'll work! image

I love it. Nice find. How's the reverse?

I've only got one end roll toner in my set so far.

I would have guessed it was toned from album toning. Are you 100% sure its an end roller?

They are not very good at it. PCGS often does not slab NT coins, but seldom slabs AT. If that is then due to actual technical expertise is questionable. Maybe they should hire Bob Campbell image NGC slabs AT much more often it seems. Strongly NT coins are more likely to go thru NGC AFAICT. If you have a nicely toned coin NGC usually also bumps it a grade, PCGS much less so, but I have seem some that were clearly "upgraded" for color.

Which part of the album imparted the ring of dark mottled toning extending from T of trust to the shoulder a couple mm into the coin? Why would it be so asymmetric?

As some of you will remember, I bought several of what appeared to be original bank wrapped rolls (from a bank) a few months ago. I did a bulk submission (just before pcgs ended it) and got back mostly MS 65's, a few 66's and just a couple of 64's. This coin was indeed the end coin in a roll. I sent this one off Friday to NGC to see if I could get a Star designation.
