Is there a book out there that's just about diagnostics?

Or is this too big of a venture? Is there one just pertaining to the highest priced or most counterfeited coins?

Thanks,
Kimberly

There are several books on numismatic counterfeit and altered coins (as opposed to contemporary counterfeits).

    Here are some.

Are you interested in counterfeits of specific coins or just in general?

Check out the Southern Gold Society

There are several tapes/DVDs available thru the ANA library as well. One that talks about the key diags is by Bill Fivaz if I recall correctly. Now, if I could just recall the key diags. image

The PCGS "Official Guide to Coin Grading and Counterfeit Detection" is a good start for some of the most counterfeited coins if you can still find that book.

you can still find the book, but most of them are second edition. The first edition is a bit scarcer (and probably double the price from a numismatic bookseller), but it is the preferred edition (larger, better plates) IMO

......i'm sure there are many. my question. do you have a coin in question that you are nervous about? if so why not ask here for some of the characteristics to check for? there are a lot of wise people on rhese boards that can and would help you identify the markers in a heartbeat. jmoimage
