Plate Coin: 1830 LM-4.2, "Federal Half Dimes 1792-1837"

Mark Goodman recently imaged this coin. It is the plate coin for the 1830 LM-4.2 die marriage in the book "Federal Half Dimes 1792-1837" by Russ Logan and John McCloskey. It is as it appears: toned on one side, untoned on the other. The tiny die chip in the upper loop of the second S in STATES is the "slam-dunk" confirmation that the coin is the LM-4.2 die remarriage and not the LM-4.1. I like it.

<< <i>Dog-- I am not sure if you have a Set Registry collection, but if so, it is probably WAY up there, if not #1. Every coin that you post is spectacular. >>
PCGS doesn't have a registry set (YET) for capped bust half dimes by die marriage, but if they did (and didn't accept NGC coins), I'm pretty sure I would do OK
That would be cool for a die marriage registry. Especially since PCGS doesn't allow NGC so the good Dr. in TN couldn't blow us all out of the water.
<< <i>And here I thought MHD had all the LM plate coins. Did you have to pry it from his cold, dead hands
Hey I got 1 too!
KIDDING STEVE! just kidding
This coin really deserves a new slab and professional imaging.
One of the things I most enjoy from plate coin postings by Barndog and Cladiator is comparing the color pics witht he black and white plates of the reference.
Beautiful coin!

now you see why I was willing to part with that coin, NHS!
I believe the plate coins are spread out pretty well across all dozen or so people who collect half dimes (JK, I think maybe three to four dozen collectors may exist!). Certainly there are denser collections of plate coins in some collections, but there have been enough plate coins available over the years that many people got a shot
