Gold bullion question

I'm going to take the plunge and buy some bullion. I was looking at APMEX and I noticed that the prices for Maple leafs are about $10 lower than the prices for American Eagles. Should I know anything before I buy the maple leafs? are they harder to sell than eagles? gold is gold, right?
If any dealers out there could weigh in on this, I'd appreciate it.

If your buying for bullion, gold is gold, as long as the gold content is the same. If your buying for numismatic quality your going to pay a lot more than spot prices on gold. image

  • Looks like the AGE's are in stock ready to ship, for 20 bucks more (Maples show a price drop and 60 over spot now) but Maples don't ship for a couple weeks.

  • Do you think that's the reason the leafs are a little lower? I plan on holding them for a while, so it really doesn't matter to me if they don't ship right away.

Bottom line is, if I go to sell these x years from now, a dealer would pay the same for the leafs as they would for the eagles, right?
  • If selling to a dealer, they will probably offer based on spot. There may be a small AGE premium if selling via ebay or such, maybe a dealer will respond to give you more sage advise than me, or try posting this on the Precious Metals forum, on the navigation bar.

  • Didn't realize there was a Precious Metals forum - Thanks! I'll try over there.
