Would you sell on eBay or Teletrade?

I have over 30 Mercs in rattler slabs that are duplicates and I'm planning on selling but I'm not sure if Teletrade is worth looking into. I've purchased them on Teletrade and eBay and prices are all over the place. Nothing really high priced, just common stuff mostly. There's about 10 that are valued above $50 but most are around $40.

Should I sell the 10 most expensive on Teletrade and slowly list the rest on eBay or just stick with eBay? I've only sold two coins on eBay and wasn't real pleased with the winning bids but that's probably a matter of experience. Another option would be to have Russ sell them but that's another cost that I haven't calculated. Any insight would be great.

Thanks,
Millertime

  • Haaaaaaaaaaaa, this is my opinion only and from my research only. I won't even bother researching prices anymore on teletrade to see what I could expect to get for a coin. Hands down I have found ebay to have the best prices if I'm looking to sell. In some cases I honestly believed that I got 30% more on ebay than I would have gotten on teletrade and this is after all fees. If you are looking to buy then go to teletrade for some great deals, but if you are looking to sell then in my opinion if top dollar is your priority then it is ebay hands down. I don't like their tactics or their fees, but what can you do.

I'm ebay unless you will sell them to me!

Post them on the BST for a week or so and then sell whatever's left on eBay. I've never personally used Teletrade, but even with the potentional hassles of eBay, I'd still sell there. More exposure.

Yeah, but for every 5-10 responses like that I've received or made on the BST, there will be someone serious.... image

I'd start on the BST--no fees, so why not?

Then, I'd go to eBay. For this material, I can't imagine the prices would be so different from one to the other, and eBay will be faster, start to finish.

A lot of guys are looking for rattlers, especially in the Mercury series.

Dollar-wise I think you'll do the best on eBay for < $75 items. List them all at once, and offer free shipping if they win multiple lots.

I say list here first on the BST. Then do leftovers on ebay. Selling on ebay is usually good as long as you have great pictures! But all the fees suck!

By the time sleazeBay & TeleTrash got through fleecing you, you wouldn't make any money.
BST Board! I sold some rattler Mercs there several weeks ago and they got gone quickly.

  • I'm with Ebay. Sell them yourself or consign them to someone else to sell. You can try the BST for a week or two and then go the Ebay route.

Teletrade is starting to be known for low-end stuff so be careful.

If you go with ebay, I would do a 10 day auction, 99 cent start and do them all on the same day, ending a minute or two after each other.

I sold some ASE's on TT which ended up costing me money. The grading fees and the
minimum charge for the seller ended up costing me more than what I paid for the units
    from the mint. Net loss!

  • I will not sell on TT again, it is expensive and you can wait months for your money. Both times I've sold on there have not been worth it.

Go to the BST first than anything that left after a week put on feeBay

If you know what you want for them, try BST first. What have you got to lose?

As I somewhat expected it sounds like Teletrade isn't a very good option. As a buyer I cringe every time a rattler pops up on Teletrade or Heritage (which is all I buy) because of the juice, that 15% adds quite a chunk to my price. I would imagine people adjust their bid prices which would hurt the selling price of my Mercs.

I'll be listing them on the BST and go from there.

    Thanks,
    Millertime
  • BST first. Then, wait for one of Teletrades "specials" where they give you $100 off of your sellers fees.

Personally, I have tried several venues. In the end I seem to get best results on my own, on ebay!image

Ammended to say, for example, I sold my entire Registry set in one shot, to 1 buyer, completely free of any fees.

Naturally, this is NOT the norm. I was indeed quite fortunate to make such a sale to a fellow collector involving ZERO fees - not even PayPal.
