    A couple of collections come to mind: Woodin and Trompeter. Both have long been dispersed.

    As for cameos, I don't know. I doubt that either one of those collectors thought to make a special effort to acquire cameos.

  • One of the best that you will never get to see was the Lily collection that is now locked up in the Smithsonian. From what I remember there were a few Cameos but as far as being complete it was something specialimage

    For a short time in 1913, Congressman William Ashbrook had a 33-year run of gold proof sets. He bought them for $2,000 from Elizabeth Gault-Smith (daughter of Edward Bringhurst, Jr. of Wilmington) in Delaware and flipped them a few days later to someone in Milwaukee for a $500 profit.

    The Bringhurst collection was dispersed by his daughter following his death and was never accorded the fame of other, nearly-complete collections that were auctioned.
