Warning! Ebay thread...."You’re the first person to watch this item. Don’t let it get away!&quo

SwampboySwampboy Posts: 13,114 ✭✭✭✭✭
Just noticed these words for the first time as I put a piece on my watch list.

<< <i>You’re the first person to watch this item. Don’t let it get away! >>

I can't see how telling this information to a buyer is a good thing for the seller.

It says to me "You're the only person dumb enough to buy this coin". I agree, very strange.

Especially when it's been up for 6 days and only has 4 hours left.

eBay just doesn't care about sellers so much anymore. Even though that's where their income comes from.

With the way they're hiding items with Worst Match, it's not hard to believe even for the neatest items.

It's not telling the seller who the buyer is. It's telling the prospective buyer that (potentially) no one else is interested in the item.

VERY stupid on the part of eBay, but that's sure as heckfire nothing new...

Seller doesn't. Ebay does. The email came from ebay, not the seller. Seller would have no way of knowing unless the watcher let them know.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

P.T. Barnum's first words were something along these lines, too. "mommy"

    BTW, and this is also proof that you can't be too dumb to work at Ebay;
I found a seller (a forumite) who I wanted to add to my favorite sellers. You know, check every week or so.

Looked far too long to find the "add to favorite sellers" button on the new cheesebay format.
I finally hit the "Watch this" button and that's when the above verbage popped up and a "add seller" link appeared.

    Grrrrrrrrr!

Yeah!! eBay pages are so cluttered with 'helpful' links that I can never find the one I need eother. I remember back in the goodle days when there were only like 5 links on the whole page.
So were you the first one to watch the seller too? image

Dunno. In my excitement of having finally found out how to add the seller I didn't notice.image

Now that I have figured this stuff out I feel confident one day I'll get the circle cropping tool in Photoshop conquered.
And before anyone offers, I've never started a day off with whine and cheesebay before. image

If its anything like Photoshop Elements, good luck! I usually have to play with it a couple of times before I setlle on: "Oh Crap! Thats plenty good enough!"

I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Ebay's wasy of telling the watcher, you can get a steal no one else will be bidding. Then ebay can get their fees.

I avoid watching the items I'm interested in. As I view it...the function of "watch"....is a bystander. If I truly want the coin, a snipe is coming.

I've understood VERY few of the changes they have made lately.

SAME here !!! I see no reason to let the seller know someone's interested... for fear of a shill bid.
