    Nice looking Peace dollar.

Is that a clash image between her chin and neck?

Looks like die polish marks on that thing as well.

    Very cool...
Always looking for attractive rim toned Morgan and Peace dollars in PCGS or (older) ANA/ANACS holders!

  • Yep it is a clash, lots of polishing lines on this one as well. The area around the entire date has polish lines. Pretty cool...

I knew from the die striations that it was a refurbished die from a clash (location, location, location...).

I was wondering how careful the refurbishing was. There appears to be left over images in the hair above "T", under the chin above "W" and the one mentioned above at the neck/jawline. There also appears to be a die crack on the base of the neck going toward the top fo the "T" in "TRVST".

    Very cool coin though.

Looks like spalling from poor die steel preparation - not "rust."
  • BigJay, nice discovery... Like you, haven't run into it ever until now....
  • I have one pcgs 64, although I think they nicked it for the rusted die part as it 100%gem

The spalling shouldn't down grade the coin - that was the way it was struck from defective dies.
  • true but, the rusted fields do something funny with the luster which hurts the eye wow factor.

I agree that it affects luster and the coin has less eye appear. But, a satin proof has almost no luster, and most collectors don't like them when compared to a normal circulation strike. The grading shouldn’t change just because the coin, as –struck, looks different.
