Why does PCGS just put 80/79 on the slab when you paid for VAM # attribution?

For those who may have experienced a similar situation........Recently I had a 1880-S VAM-8 submitted for me and came back with just 1880/79-S on the slab where the date is normally at. The VAM # was not on there anywhere, although PCGS recognizes this particular VAM. It was submitted under the Regular submission tier AND Variety attribution service ($50 total less shipping).

They shouldn't have done it that way....if you indicate the specific Vam# and it is one that they acknowledge and you pay for the variety, it should be listed that way on the holder.

Did you put coin #133886 on the submission form, or coin #7120?

My recommendation is to send an e-mail to Mike Faraone (mfaraone@collectors.com) and explain the situation to him.

personally I would pay more for a coin that had the 80/79 than I would for the "vam" designation as the 80/79 is recognized in the redbook and other publications. (imho) Julie

Very interesting point Julie....I am thinking the majority of Vammers would want the Vam # listed on the holder and other folks might see it better as 80/79.....great perspective!
