Paypal help

After being a verified member for over 5 years I have always just transfered my excess money to my checking account.

Now that it has built up again, paypal wants my SSN to release my funds. I do not like to give that to anyone much less those bozos.

Any ideas?

  • Maybe you let too much accumulate? You may look into having them cut you a check, not sure if that would get around that requirement.

I wonder if its the amount you want to transfer is the reason?
Maybe try transfering a smaller amount.

You could also try transferring part of the balance one day then some more the next day and so on.

You let them handle thousands & thousands of your hard earned $$$ and link them to your personal bank account so what's the big deal about your SSN?
They pay me interest on my balance thru the PayPal Money Market so I prolly gave them my SSN and have no problem with it. If they want to steal my identity they can have it.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

Yeah, either give them your SSN or accept their minimum transfer amounts then start paying attention. Isn't it like $500 a month?

There comes a point in time that you have to have a certain amount of trust in any online agency that you use on a regular basis. Beit your bank. your credit card company or PayPal. A part of their business is to protect the integrity of your financial transactions.

I didn't have a problem giving them my SSN but thats just me.

Funny enough I can pay my Heritage bill which is over the $500 limit ( more fees for Pay Pal) I just can't get the cash.

Did I mention how much I love Ebay?

They want to know why their profits are dropping? Ebay - some free advice - stopping be so greedy! There is not as much to buy because sellers are listing less good cins and more junk. I used to buy 10-20 coins a week now down to 3-5 a month!

but hey , just my opinion what do I know know I am voting for (XoX8#@^)

I'm surprised PayPal allows any accounts without SSN's. After all they are acting as an online bank in many ways. Try opening up an ordinary bank account without a SSN.

SSN's are not terribly private and knowing someone's is not going to get you far. It wasn't long ago that SSN's appeared on most health insurance ID's, e.g. Only recently did legislation change that.

I spent seven years working as a SSA program specialist (long ago). You have bigger worries. Like scrambled earnings records, employers not reporting your taxed income, statute limitations on fixing errors, proving age, relationship and/or disability.

I think you're far more trusting to give PayPal credit card and bank account data.

In theory, if you're verified and have long ago provided the necessary info to become verified - THEY ALREADY KNOW YOU SS#.

What they are doing is protecting YOU - to be sure YOU are who YOU claim to be!

JMHO & if I'm wrong, it won't be the 1st time nor will it be the Last!

Just make sure you are REALLY talking to PayPal! image

Being prior Air Force and now working in the private government sector, I've given out my SSN so many times for various documents, files, etc. that I've learned not to hold it in such high regards as others do. Also, as mentioned being in the private sector, the company I work for was responsible for re-writing the software that PayPal uses for its various systems, part of it being what is used for authentication/encryption and I can assure you there is no current way for anyone to "hack" into the database and steal private information. The only way this information could get into the wrong hands would be because of a foul employee, but as mentioned, you've opened a bank account and you trust them, correct? PayPal always keeps their software up to date and current against the various virus threats unlike some other companies I won't mention that would probably make you cringe knowing so.

  • Would you still have to provide your SSN if you took smaller draws?

No. PayPal has set limits which I think are $500 per month. So if the OP has 2 grand, thats a 4 month process provided no other funds get deposited.

Listen we live in a world in which MOST are totally clueless regarding just how far Technology has
come within the past few years. What once was "Star Trek" - ish is now Reality! Think about it!

Now - it's YOUR money however 1) we are still at War, 2) We are still under a terrorist alert and 3)
The GLOBAL Economy is in dire straits!

I think you now realize that NEVER should you, nor anyone else, permit huge amounts of money sit
in a Bank that could fold overnight let alone PayPal. Like it or not, once you are CERTAIN you are dealing
with PayPal, if you want your money - you ARE GOING TO HAVE TO play by their rules - or else - spend it!

    Good luck to you!

    Keep us posted!image

10-4. I see what he's saying now. They just want your SSN one time to upgrade your account; which is free.

If he calls PayPal and is indeed "verified" he can deposit his funds directly into his checking account.

No and I this is the first time in 1 1/2 years that I used my PayPal account to receive money so I am still puzzled a bit why I was able to transfer that amount without them having my SS number.

You should get upset with them and threaten to cancel your account!
Don't take this type of stuff from them!

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
