I have dozens of VF-AU barber halves, including many duplicates and even quadruplicates

Including dates such as 1896-s and 1901-s, both of which are nice XF-40 or 45 duplicates:

A. how have prices held up in recent months
B. how do real prices compare to PCGS price guide prices
C. do you think this is a good time to sell, or that prices will continue to appreciate
d. if continue to appreciate, how quickly, when and why

One of the reasons for posting now is the report here that Heritage recently sold an
1898-O in AU-58 for $12,950. Some of my couns are rare date mid-high grade AUs,
like an 1893-s pcgs AU-55 I bought last year on eBay from Tyler.

Thank you

If they are not cleaned (and, that's a big 'if' as most are) you have quite the hoard of Barbers there.

Personally I'd hold them and possibly even have a few graded with PCGS.

A & B you can do for yourself on the internet by investing your time, not asking others to spend their time.

C & D are crystal ball questions. One guess is as good as another, particularly on coins no one but you have seen or graded.

    A) Prices for key dates have held up and have increased dramatically in the last year. AU55 or 58 coins for the 93-S, 96-O, 01-S and 04-S are priced like MS 63 coins were a few years back.

    B) I haven't checked the PCGS price guides, but Heritage sales results will yield very good auction data.

    C) This isn't the very best time to sell (six months back was the best), but it will be much better now than in six months hence...IMO.

D)AU and MS grades prices will drop IMO, for all dates. XF and lower should hold steady and strong.

It was an 1896-O in PCGS AU 58 which sold for $12,650.
I also own an 1898-O in PCGS AU 58 - and its worth 1/10 of what the 96-O in 58 sold for.

You can't go wrong with the Key Dates - and they usually sell for over PCGS guidelines. - in the grades you mentioned.

However the more common dates are at or slightly above the PCGS guidelines...all based on eye appeal. Also,
these price guides are for PCGS holdered coins.
