    Toasty.

  • If the coin looks more like the TrueView pictures than your pictures in hand, then the toning is definitely questionable.

Sorry to say that I agree that the toning looks questionable.

  • The first photo kinda looks like the coin was cleaned (maybe dipped) and then colorfully retoned in an album.
Don't know if PCGS qualifies this scenario as "questionable color" though.

    The colors are attractive.

I was just thinking about this yesterday, along with "altered surfaces".

Are coins considered 'guilty' if the grading service is on the fence?
I would rather they say the coin is AT than questionable.
IMO, if they can't say it's AT, then it should grade.

Altered surfaces should be more detailed.

    But that's JMO

I agree. You have a coin that you think the color is questionable. You send it in to the experts along with your fee and they send it back and say, Yep questionable color! image

AT or not, I like the looks!

Looks like one I saw at a shop in Scottdale.

In the Tru-Vue images, the toning on the reverse has hardly any transitional blending in the colors, the areas are to concise, too much delineation, like it had been painted on.

I can understand “questionable” it just means the graders were not able to distinguish with certainty the tones as represented.

I remember that my first impression of this piece when you posted it a month ago or so was that I was highly suspicious of the color, though I do not believe I wrote that in the thread because I didn't want to be a wet blanket.
