My other surprize coin came in today and I'm happy happy
Netherlands (Utrecht)
1748 Gold 6 Stuivers
NGC MS63
Couldn't wait so I"m posting shop photos but will try to take my own (hopefully better) this weekend. The coin is very prooflike in hand with a very strong strike.
Brief coin facts:
The ship is most likely a Dutch East Indiaman; which is a large, heavy armed merchant ship.
Reference: KM# 101a / Delmonte #987/ Not listed in Frieberg ???
Delmonte Rarity scale: R.1-R.2 (Rare-Very Rare) **I would say very rare in this grade.
Weight : 7 grams
Dia : 27mm (A little larger than a quarter)
Mintage: unknown

That's a darn good ship!
Boy, do I not see this in Krause. The whole Netherlands section seems to be missing.
I am curious because I have no idea what a "Stulver" is and six of them seems an odd denomination.
The Netherlands is missing in my 5th edition also.
I emailed them and they sent me addendum section (19 pages). I'll scan it tommorrow and send you a copy via email if you like ??

That is BEAUTIFUL!
nice pick up!
It really very prooflike and full of lustre in the fields. Amazing it can be 260 years old and be it such mint shape.
Here is some additional pictures, not as good as I would like but they portray the coin a little more colorful than the Northeast shots, that are shot in bright lighting and depict the coin as somewhat dull which the coin is not. The obverse of the slab is heavily scratched which also shows in the NE pics.
stunning, amazing condition for a coin of that era! thanks for sharing and congrats!!!!!
