In the mid-90's, before I realized how stupid it was, I bought 30 Morgans touted as Brilliant Uncirculated from one of the coin shows for $300+. Then, about 4 years ago, I noticed that the edges of all of them had turned very black and it was even spreading onto the rims of some. I sent them in for conservation and grading. Nine were BB'ed for improper cleaning. The only one of any significance (for me) was the 1879-S, '78 Reverse, and it came back AU55.
Ever since then, I only chuckle at these shows especially when the host tries to show all of his pearly-whites in a broad smile and talk at the same time.
I watch just for laughs. I'm still a rookie at all this and even I know not to buy from them! I was lucky in that I learned that before I could buy anything from them. I doubt I ever will, either.
I had a laugh.....after a L O N G drawn out speil about how the mint had stopped selling gold...because they couldn't get the metal for the coins, I had a look on the mint website, and, you guessed it, every offering was available, from buffalos to eagles. All for sale.
They must have ANACS in their shirt pocket.
I did find it amusing when they said there were 150 million coin collectors in the USA. I suppose that defines "coin collecting" as having coins in your pocket.
the sellout of gold and unavailability of eagle's and buffalo's from the USM refers to BULLION (non-W) issues for sale direct to first tier distributors.

My outburst of laughter upon seeing the television did not go over well.
Something tells me it will take a great deal of good behavior to fix that.

I hear ya Herb! I can second that. Same goes here but I was pretty lucky and
didn't get hurt too badly in my ignorance. Lesson learned, for sure!
Never again!
