Could be, the NGC label says 50mm. A silver eagle's about 40mm.

The medal is quite thick, so it may be thicker than their oversized slabs

That is cool.....What is the composition? Appears to be some sort of silver plated bronze or maybe pewter.

Compare the profile pictures in the medal and the commem dollar.
They don't even look like the same people.
The noses are especially different.

A little background on this medal:

1881 Yorktown Surrender Centennial Medal. White metal, 50mm. By P.L. Krider Philadelphia.
Obv: Jugate busts of Washington and Lafayette, legend, 1881;
rev: Surrender scene and date 1781.

Not a problem Stefanie. I refocused on an awarded American Institute medal and also on an unawarded bronze example of the Jesse Ketchum medal. Bought both for less than I expected to pay for one of them
