Lacquer on copper tokens

Is this token lacquered? If it is can it be removed safely? I wanted to slab it

On another note.....check out the spelling of "Promissory" "O" over "A"

Sweet old token.

Lacquer is a possibility, though I can't say for sure. A little acetone ought to fix that right up.

There still appears to be something left on the obverse.

But you gotta love the "O" over "A" in "Promissory"

True, very true

but, that how I see them imaged so I have to assume
my image would be correct.
But after looking more it looks like there may be some gunk left on the sides

The acetone really took the gunk off. How long did you leave it in the acetone?

You may need a longer, second soak in acetone and possibily some work with a toothpick or a rose thorn to dig out the particularly stuborn gunk.

sweet token...i love the "o over a"...lol

one tip to consider is after your happy with the acetone removing the laquer...

give it a mineral oil soak too as it doesn't but help copper's surface even unseen conditions
