I'm the Proud recipient of a genuine "you suck" award dated 1/24/05. I was accepted into the "Circle of Trust" on 3/9/09.

Let me guess... it was submitted from a Collectors' Club member in Hong Kong?

I guess someone has been buying "Deals" off of eBay. Too bad.
I used to be somebody, now I'm just a coin collector.

What are the chances this guy will drop out of the hobby? Sad.

I suspect this is a Chinese submission, testing their new dies on PCGS.

Excellent point. The chances of winning only fraudulant coins are slim. Mike

First thing that occurred to me as well. Note to eBay buyers: If it sounds to good to be true, it almost certainly is.

What a great learning tool it would be if photos with diagnostics were available to view of these "not genuine" submissions... that alone would be worth the membership dues...

psst hey David this would make a nice addition to coinfacts...

That would have been a nice group of coins.

The only thing holding them back was that little "not genuine" thing that PCGS found. image

I would like to see the 1843-O $10 counterfeit. I do not recall ever seeing a counterfeit southern gold coin.
  • Holy Cow- I agree that it is someone testing their fakes against PCGS. I doubt even the unluckiest, most uneducated E-Bay bidder would go 0 for 8 with all 8 coins being counterfeit. There would at least be a few "Cleaned" or "Damaged" or "Altered Surfaces" coins mixed in.
