Bought a new counterfeit this past weekend

I happened to be in my local B&M this weekend (which I also work at part time during the summer and my time off from school). And I was helping out because he was a little busy, and this couple came in with some coins, and one of them was this coin. I told them it was a counterfeit, and they asked me how I knew. So I wrote my name on a piece of paper with the coin, telling them that is not a good sign. Needless to say, it's a lead counterfeit. Goes well with the Barber dime I bought a few weeks ago.

It's a nice piece, I like it. Do you have pics of the Barber as well?

Wow! Sublime in their leady hideousness.

    Interesting.

These must have been in better shape when freshly made.

It would not take much circulation to mutilate a lead coin.

Thanks for sharing the photos. An interesting set you have there.

Dunno why but I like counterfeits over the real counterparts more and more every day. They seemto have more character.

No self-respecting Chinese counterfeiter would use lead. LOL

I hadn't seen one in awhile but I remember when these lead counterfeits would occasionally showup at a coin show auction from a newbie seller - they were easy to spot because, well, they looked like lead counterfeits. LOL

Of course not. Their lead inventory was depleted painting children's toys and adding to baby formula

I agree. This area of collecting is very inexpensive & very historical. These were obviously made circa 1920's-1930's. It took guts (or stupidity, or desperation) to make some of these and to pass them, as it was a crime the Secret Service took very seriously.

All that for a couple of bucks per "coin".
