Mike, I gave a lecture at the Baltimore ANA that gave me some insight into Frank's character. That lecture is on our website with some neat pictures, takes about 20 seconds to down-load on cable.

I drove a big-truck all over the US for 10 years through 2001. Used four animal whistles, two on each hood. Eagles loved them, occasionally would circle my cab as I drove down the road, making my day big time.
I've always enjoyed this magnificent bird as it is a frequent visitor to Vermont. Was usually not impressed with portreyals of Eagles on various classic American coins, either too small or too stylized if not flat-out wierd.
Four years ago I found I actually liked Gasparro's Eagles, even the one on the back of his Ike dollar coin.
Then I met and began working with Daveid Golan on the SBA Dollar and he introduced me to the politice behind the FEV which he had begun to tease out.
Having read quite a bit about Gasparro the man, I can assure you he was passionately and energetically patriotic in the best sense of the word. His Eagles were expressive symbols of his love of country and you can see this in every coin and medal he designed with an Eagle, but especially the small dollar pattern and his Bicentennial medal!
Thanks so much for all the images on this thread. Rob
Modern dollars are like children - before you know it they'll be all grown up.....
