Sept. 29th Today in History 1942 JFK writes Thank You for good luck coin

I read on my dad's "History Channel" page-a-day calendar today that "Before he was president of the United States, John F. Kennedy served in the US Navy. On this day in 1942, he sent a thank you note to his friend and noted playwright Clare Booth Luce, who had sent him a good luck coin. He attached the coin to his military tags, and the token proved to be lucky indeed when the Japanese attacked his PT boat in July of 1943..."
Does anybody know what kind of coin it was?

Samuel, I'm pretty sure it wasn't ten yen.
I have no clue about what type
of coin was sent to him as good luck.

Seriously, tho', I wouldn't be surprised if it was a Walker. Maybe even from 1917, his birthyear.
Interesting. I dunno. This warrants further investigation.

I've tried finding out, but all I found is "a coin".
