I'm sorry, but selling over $35k worth of hockey cards this year and you complain about fees that helped you sell those items, I just don't have any sympathy. There are a lot of people who don't even net that much after working their butts off 40hrs a week for the entire year.

Then why hasn't somebody copied ebay and only charged 5%?
Where do you go when you want to buy something? You go to ebay. The seller's charges are somewhat based on the community that ebay has created. Like others have said, if it's so bad, then don't sell on ebay. It's your choice. If you want to sell on ebay, then you must pay their fees. It is interesting how there are many people that agree to pay the fees for the profits they can make by utilizing ebay's business model.
They are providing you a service that reaches MILLIONS of buyers you get what you pay for.. I guess PSA is a scam to because they charge to grade cards.
OP-go look at the Wagglepop model if you want to see a true scam. Ray Romeo owner of that site has suckered about 6000 sellers to pay him 10 dollars a month for the priveledge of listing on his Ebay like site. He does no advertising, if you get to looking at the feedback left you can see the same 200 or 300 buyers are the ones buying from EVERYONE on there, many of these are believed to be Rays own selling IDs. Basically he collects 60,000 a month. Buys a couple of thousand dollars a month from himself or from a few select sellers to make it look like stuff is actually selling and those sheep keep relisting and continue paying. There are some occasional actual sales, but I think 95% of the sales are suspect.
OP- You do realize that you will not be able to leave negative feedback for any of your buyers should they try to rip you off...

The wagglepop thread at tuliptools.com is quite an epic story. THOUSANDS of blow-by-blow posts.
I tested it with a few hundred items when it restarted. I sold a couple items to other sellers; and, bought a couple from sellers.
It was a TOTAL waste of listing time.
When I cancelled the store, they acted like I was a villainous traitor. They charged me for the next month's rent, AND cancelled my entire account; no buying or selling. (They do that to everybody, so I was not being singled out.)
Allegedly, RR also makes up "staff-members" that do not exist.

If I ever get ambitious, I will start a "free site." NO FEES to list, AND no fees when your item sells. With an agressive ad salesman, it could prolly break-even or make a couple of dollars.

Folks Who Bite Get Bitten. Folks Who Don't Bite Get Eaten.
I went through the same thing with "Karen" at WP when I questioned why a seller who sells scrapbooking would be buying comic books and baseball cards and leaving feedback for the items within 24 hours and the same comic book and Card sellers were buying from the scrapbooking person and leaving feedback at the same rate. When I asked that it was like I had just committed murder.
Karen was suppoused to be like Rays right hand person his number 2. I think all she was was his right hand.
I always thought it was funny to that the whole time RR was trying to make WP work he continued to sell under his new ID on Ebay. I know many people were kicked off there for questioning that.
You mean that the if you sell a $15,000 card on ebay, then they take more than the 50 cents it cost to list the item? Albert- what fantasyland have you been living in where you think that a business will let you sell goods on their venue and not want to take a fair cut? For all intents and purposes, 10% of your overall sales is really not that bad considering you only have to pay minimal rent ($15 a month for an ebay store) and have an established pool of literally millions of potential customers. Ebay is evil for many reasons, but charging 10% of your overall sales is not one of them.

Of the many great things about American Attitudes is that ole Yankee no how (with all due respect to those down south)....someone I am sure will raise up a standard against Ebay...it really shouldn't be that hard but will take some serious advertising and the ability to woo enough sellers over there...

You've got all the answers, don't you. You seem to love to put your thoughts and your words into other people's mouths. I based my statements on the facts that YOU presented. I didn't make anything up. I didn't fabricate anything. I read your words, visited your auctions, and reread your other posts. You can't keep your stories straight or your facts accurate, but you still call me a liar, dishonest, shady, and other names that we don't need to rehash and then challenge my patriotism. You are a real treat.
I'll allow you to have the last word as this will be my final post on the subject, but I'll stand behind the fact that I believe that you are a greedy, self-centered pig. The EXACT thing that I've stated from the get-go and haven't deviated from. You've provided nothing to dissuade me from that conclusion. In fact, you've provided more falsehoods to try to salvage your case and I'm not the only one who sees through it. And stop trying to be such a pompous blowhard, that's my job (right Steve?).
Judging by Ebay Forums, people are livid over the Fees and the other changed policies...
They may be livid over it, BUT where are they at? ON EBAY.. People are negative in general and will only talk about bad things. 99% of the Ebay population NEVER goes to the Ebay boards. You never see the largest sellers there complaining about fees or changes its just business as usual for them. I am not talking about Buy and some of these others now either.
"...You never see the largest sellers there complaining about fees or changes its just business as usual for them...."

Of the "largest 1000," about 20%+ have ZERO listings at this time.
MANY are building their own sites and will never come back to EBAY. MANY will use EBAY only to push buyers to the new websites.
Discontent is broad and deep. BUT, it is not largely "fee related."
I have ZERO problem paying whatever the fee is, IF I make money.
The problem is that LOTS of folks are paying and NOT making money. Then, they are burdened with ridiculous policies/rules that are administered by a bunch of GED-monkeys.
There is a breaking point. More folks will find it after the holiday season fails to deliver.
Folks Who Bite Get Bitten. Folks Who Don't Bite Get Eaten.
Its amazing to me that there still isn't a viable option to ebay for sports cards. It used to be such a great way to buy and sell cards without it costing a small fortune. I would love to see one great sports card website that everyone bought and sold on. With costs similar to ebay 4-5 years ago. I would think if someone could pull it off... They could make a small fortune off of us.

The fees Ebay charges are fairly easy to find while you're setting up an auction.
With the kind of volume you were dealing with, you should have set up an Excel spreadsheet and figured your possible scenarios before you listed.
Did you list everything as auctions, or buy-it-nows? BIN's take a bigger chunk.
An item that sells for $500 at AUCTION will have a FVF of $18.82.
An item that sells for $500 as a BIN will have a FVF of $33.00.

<< <i>[A]nd people like Scott are painting me as the bad guy??? >>
Not bad, just out of touch.
<< <i>Scott your an idiot! >>
Coming from you, I'll take that as the word of an expert.

And let's keep it that way. You've already digressed to impress twice already.
BTW, why is a Canadian sporting the flag and symbol of the US in their avatar? Never mind, I don't really want to know.
And consider that folks...my handle at EBAY is 'proamericanalbertan'...........and I mean that...and beleive you me
I have had some nasty comments from Canadians and not a few left wing americans....I'm sure I have even lost
business but thats okay....
Those are my real feelings and have been for me since the 70's!!
Anyways..yeah Scott .....seriously do me a favor and piss off!
Your a judging ahole and I have no time for people that lie about me!!
Just go talk to my customers and sellers and ask them what they think about me!!
Otherwise, thanks for some good insight from the rest of you!
the traffic that Ebay can...
Methinks that it will take some serious capital to mayby get something seriously going and end this draconian monopoly that Ebay has...
No doubt they are the best game in town...unless I want to take my collection of graded and ungraded to an auction house and I'm not encouraged about their fee structure either...
Of the many great things about American Attitudes is that ole Yankee no how (with all due respect to those down south)....someone I am sure will raise up a standard against Ebay...it really shouldn't be that hard but will take some serious advertising and the ability to woo enough sellers over there...
Judging by Ebay Forums, people are livid over the Fees and the other changed policies...
Take Care
the traffic that Ebay can..
Bingo and that is why we pay our 10%.

Then, they are burdened with ridiculous policies/rules that are administered
by a bunch of GED-monkeys.
There is a breaking point. More folks will find it after the holiday season
fails to deliver.
