My new Capped Bust Quarter (1819)

Ok, so here are some quick pics of a New Bust Quarter I just picked up from the man who wrote the book, QuarterNut.
Sorry about the blurry obverse image, but the reverse is the only side the really matters for this coin. (Look closely) image

It's a B-2 (R3), DS-2. What this means is that this is likely the closest I will ever come to owning an 1827.
The reverse die on this coin was used to coin the reverse of the 1827 B-2.

Whoa, I missed that at first. Very neat!

OK, I'll bite. What's the significance of the date? (You know which date I mean). image

Bust quarters are a rather attractive type in my opinion. What do you think about the inscription, "December 21st 1848" on the reverse, though?

What I've found (on Google) is that it likely represents the end of the Mexican-American War.

I would like to know if it means anything else, and if someone would like to search the date for me, I would be most appreciative.

    Aha!

Very cool piece. You know I like love tokens. Well, this is not so much a love token, but a very cool aftermarket-engraved piece, nonetheless.

The Mexican War connection makes it pretty fascinating.

Aside from that little hairline on the wing, I like the look of it as a regular coin, in its own right, too. Has some decent CircCam attributes to it.

If you have an 1828 B-1, then that would be as close as you might get to the 1827 B-1, as they also share a reverse...

Glad you are enjoying the coin! image
