It is with great trepidation...

I want your omniscient eyes to look at this coin and give me an evaluation as to grade and value. I do understand that pics are not a

perfect way to analyze these things, much better in hand, but still please let me know what you think....thanks image

I say with "great trepidation" because there are times I am disappointed in my evaluation and judgement in making an internet purchase.

Disappointed because some members who have tremendous experience with these type coins blow holes in my ego. I'm learning as fast

as I can. image

My opinion: XF details, cleaned a while back and retoned. Not too bad a purchase depending on what you paid of course.

Classic EF detailed coin with a light cleaning that has subsequently toned over.

There are six Overton varieties for the 1819/8 and this appears to be an O.101. I agree that the coin has been cleaned in the past and has since retoned.

  • Thanks...I would like to hear about the approximate value on this. I don't have a grey sheet and I know that's about the best source.

Thats one of those coins that probably looks brown/grey straight on,but tilted shows the colors.

I can't see any hairlines,so I think it would be a good coin to have ,if the price is right.

If you don't like it ,send it to me,I will give it a good home!

I think it would retail in the $200-250 range

Photos look over exposed, the coin is probably darker in hand
  • I'm feeling better now....will take hopefully better pics when I receive it....I paid within the parameters mentioned before, slightly ahead of

$200....I will be sending this one in for official grading....since it was mentioned that there is a possible early cleaning/re-toning, should I

just cut to the chase and send it to ANACS? I would prefer a PCGS holder but don't want to waste time and money for a body bag.

edited to add....I thought this might have a chance at an MS60-62 grade.....and the consensus is that it's not even AU...

that's why I wanted your opinion, so I can sharpen my skills.

    thanks all image
