Actually hockey sucks but was trying to be nice in the title.
Apperantly we hijacked someones very entertaining thread discussing the merits and popularity of hockey. So, like I said, hockey sucks.

hmmm, I guess the prisoners were lying to me when they acted very thankful and spoke about how much they enjoyed having the rodeo events at Angola(I assume that is where you are talking about)

I have been to a few Mudbugs games and to some Dallas Stars games. Hockey has a small incredibly loyal following, but lacks mass appeal to compete with the major sports here.

Those guys could walk onto an NFL field and kick butt

Yea, it sucks right NOW, since they're not even playing right now. Come next month, it'll be good

I don't think you could have all that fighting now-- it just wouldn't be safe. It's one thing to have a bunch of 5'10", 180 lb (or 75 kg, if you lean that way) dudes swinging at each other; it's quite another to have guys like Chara-- or even Bertuzzi, as far as that goes--doling it out 40 times a year. Given the size of these guys now someone is going to get killed in one of these fights eventually, and having more fights would only ensure that this happens sooner or later.
The basic problem with the NHL, in my opinion, is that they're trying to make a European style game work on the small ice. If they expanded the ice there wouldn't be any problems.

On a side note as far as cards, one of my favorite of any sport is the 85-86 Topps/OPC set, great simple design IMO.
Good goalie on a really, really, bad hockey team.
