Attention CWT Fans: 34th Reg Zouave 5ct in goods token. Sutler Token

This may be a good find. I was hoping someone could tell me about it.

Thanks in advance

The reverse says:

John Stanton

Die Sinker

Cincinnati

maybe this from the CWT Society Page:

The OH165GD-1a token is undated and was struck by John Stanton employing a thin brass planchet and the John Stanton reverse reminiscent of sutler tokens. Although undated, we can determine through the city directories that this token was definitely struck during the Civil War.

OK, prolly not that but I've learned it's a Sutler Token....

I may be wrong, but I think it says John Spanton as apposed to John Stanton.

The CWT site references the die maker as "Stanton".

I'm kinda getting excited about it and hoping it's a rare one. These are all supposedly more rare than the usual tokens and store cards. And then amongst Sutler Tokens, some are of course more rare than others. So far, I haven't been able to find this one, which is GOOD.

overlooked the obvious search.......mine should bring a fraction of that sale.

edited to say: NOPE, I went and searched Zouave again and I get nothing with my search image

Well, technically I can't argue with that, but I think the fraction is going to be closer to "1" than to "0". Sutler tokens come way uglier than yours. There's a lot of demand, not much supply.

BTW, congrats if this was out of a junk box or similar...

It's from a recent collection I bought. thought it was nothing and didn't pay anything specifically for it....just another token as far I knew at the time.

I'm glad you were able to confirm. Stanton it is.

I just watched an interesting CSpan show about a re-enactment of the Battle of Antietam.
Those Zoave regiments were really colorful.
