What's up with this 1883 No Cents Nickel?

obv and rev have cartwheel luster.... is this an eroded die? the reverse is pretty clean, the front exhibits what you see in the closeup...

what do you think?

Ill try to reimage the obv....

balance way off, I shot it in the basement and it's a horrible place to shoot.
Ill try to restage it fully.

I dunno. I wouldn't think so because there's nothing sitting on it, rust, or anything embedded/caked on, coin still has luster so it wasn't circulating.... the rev is pretty much clean, so maybe it sat on it's reverse and something sat on liberties face, but only subtle-ly?

I guess that's an option tho. I hadn't thought of that.

Umm, it has strange blue dots on the obverse, when viewed closely?

    Will-o'-the-wisps? Ectoplasm? Hmm.

Seriously, tho', I dunno. Looks like just scuz to me, generally speaking. Old mineral deposits from water spots, perhaps?
