Buying unsearched Raw Lincoln's

I have an oppurtunity to buy a small collection of raw semi-unsearched Lincoln cents from 1909 to around 1980. They are mostly before the 1960's though. There are about 30 rolls in all with many in rolls and some in individual manilla paper flips. I say semi-searched becuase they are from an old collector who pulled pennies from circulation to add to his set, but he died in the early 80's and his heir is in her 60's and knows nothing of coins. I know there is not a 1909 s vdb because he only found one and I have it now. There is probably not another 1922 plain cause its mine too image But since he was pulling to fill his dansco album that does not have any varieties then theres a good chance that these can be found. But I am not going to search through all of the cents looking just to make an offer. This collector seems to have also pulled pennies that he deemed would be more valuable like early cents. The problem I have is how much to pay her for these coins. I don't want to search them all just to make an offer yet I don't want to pay stupid money, not undercut te price so much. Just want to pay her fair market for them. Of course I am also going to buy what silver coins she has also, such as a few early halves and quarter dollars. But those are easier to price and give fair value for. Any help would be greatly appeciated.

    semi-unsearched = searched

you might find some RPDs or other minor varieties however

  • Yeah thats what I meant...it has been searched but for the key dates, no varieties or errors that have been discussed in recent books. I am betting that the guy...of course its hoping.....did not know about many DD errors and if he did he actually put them in his rolls for saving for the future. Just like current collectors will pull interesting coins and save them...so I am hoping thats whats in this collection.

I purchased about 50 rolls of BU pennies from say 1950 to 1977 with about 20 rolls pre 1930, mabey a roll of pre 1900's and abotu 4 rolls 1900-1910. I think I paid like $350 for the box. I opened it up at home and found a roll of silver in there, mostly barber nickels from early 1900. I only looked a the 10 rolls of 1969-S rolls, that took me about two weeks because it was painfull. I was taking about 40 minutes a roll and I couldn't do more than 1 a night mainly because I didn't care too much at the time and had other stuff to do. I think I have about 30 rolls that I still need to go through.
  • I searched 27k circulated wheats in 3 days, found a 1914-D, 1931-S, but many varieties, many 36 DD die 1's etc.

I enjoy going through old wheaties and your right it gets to the eyes after a while. I am sure I have missed a few things as I usually get 40-50 every week stopping at different gas stations and stores in the area that save them for me. Someday I will need glasses, maybe sooner than I think.
  • My wife , 8 year old son , and I love searching wheats . It's like roll searhing sometimes good most times a little slow and no reward .

it'd be truly neat finding "unsearched"

some here have had great luck too

but most are falsely claimed to be unsearched

This came from a bag of " unsearched " wheats. The story is on CoinTalk.org somewhere, " Bag find of the Decade " thread, XF-40 Die #2 strong reverse
