Just purchased - Aaron Rookie...trimmed?

Just won this auction a few minutes ago on an impulse/last second bid...never even had a chance to really notice who the seller was and what their feedback was (not usually smart I know). Even though it looks to be trimmed (looks well worn, but not sure that much border can get worn naturally), I still think I got a pretty good deal on the lot considering I can probably sell the 64' Giant for about 30-40 bucks. Don't think it looks too bad...trimmed or not. Whaddayathink?

You paid $91 total for the 2 cards .... $31 for the 54 Aaron is a steal!
IMHO, you did alright!

Don't forget, I am just one small voice in the whole world here!
Good luck, Nice Topps Giant! And if that RC comes back in a PSA AUTH. case it'll look awesome!!!

<< <i>He probably sold the graded card with the Aaron rookie to slip it by eBay, which only allows graded copies of the Aaron rookie to be auctioned. >>
Nick,
Good point ... and probably dead on.

When they made cards back then, black was a solid color and everything else was print dots. Under magnification black shows up solid.
If you can magnify or scan your aaron card, you'll be able to tell the difference. If it's real, send it for grading, you got a steal. If it's not real, file SNAD and get your money back.
1954 ted williams card
1975 dan fouts card - see how the black is print dots
<< <i>do I see a partial white border at the top? >>
Shouldn't there be a bit of border from the other card, if this card was cut off center top to bottom?

No, these cards were place top to top on the sheets.

<< <i>The 1954 Aaron rookie is a reprint with forced wear on the surfaces and edges. The top front edge of the card doesn't have a white border and neither does the perimeter of he back, the reprinted version does. Sorry for the bad news.. >>
I was thinking the same, The wear does not look natural at all and the boarders looked wrong as well..
If the seller has everything else in slabs this card would have been too.. If legit.
Sorry this happened to you.

IMO, there is not a white border on the back of this card, it is just wear to the card.
Any other tell-tale signs of a fake that I can look for on this card other than the black print dots?
<< <i> IMO, there is not a white border on the back of this card, it is just wear to the card. >>
I agree, it almost looks like it was worn with a belt sander.
He probably already knew, I'd ask for some type of refund.
Steve
Guy is a scammer.
I hope you did not leave Positive feedback yet.

<< <i>I messaged the guy about the Jordans giving him some benefit of the doubt since it looks like he doesn't normally sell cards and has been a high volume eBayer in other items. I told him bluntly that PRO is a BS grading service and that even the 86 Fleer RC looks to be a fake. I suggested pulling the auction for his sake. We shall see how he responds if he is legit or not that is for sure. >>
buyers need to educate themselves and take responsibility for their own actions. anyone looking to get a deal on a pro graded jordan should know better.
Hello - just received the Aaron cards today and see that the 54' Aaron is not genuine. I'll be packing them up for return shipment and subsequent refund. Please let me know you've received this note. thanks-
His reply:
I believe it to be genuine. I did say the lot is "as is" , in the description. But will allow you to return the lot as I have a disappointed bidder who wanted it.
My reply:
Earl - I really wish it were genuine, but unfortunately it is not. Using a loupe you can see the small black dots that make up the black letters. This is caused by more modern printing techniques. The original has solid black ink letters. I'll get it in the mail early next week. Thanks, Forrest.
A PSA 1 1954 Aaron would bring more then 31.00
The guy slips worthless junk into lots with legit cards.
He did it with the Aaron rookie and is now doing it with a Jordan, If I looked at
more of his auctions I bet I'd find a pattern here.
Steve
WinPitcher I agree completely that he knows what he is doing now because of the response to sell it to another. This is the reason he should get a neg for selling a known forgery.
3 PSA graded Mays and a 1952 UNGRADED !!
Says bid accordingly!!

Steve
So report him for all of them...
I'd not do anything rash until I got my refund.
If it did not come 1 week after I sent the cards in I'd do the SNAD,
When I had my refund in hand, depending on what hoops he put me through
my feedback would either be a neutral or negative.
Either way I'd say he sold me a fake.
Steve
It could be trimmed.
Regardless, the guy is a sleaze bag.
Steve
Unless the card is maximized I can't tell. (even maxed i can't tell.
Actually you probably are right. I was just saying......
Steve
You meant PRO? not GEM right?
It is possible this moak has no idea.
I just find it funny that he is moving junk with legit.
Steve
<< <i>I'm considering just keeping it (and getting it off the market)...after all it did only cost me around $31. I already have a bit of a 'popular fakes' collection going as I have a nice Jordan, Gretzky and several Roses (the Roses have counterfeit stamped on the back from the famous LA bust a few years back). This might be a nice addition to it. If I do, anyone want to buy the 64' Topps Giant from the auction? I guess VCP was $60...any takers at that amount delivered? >>
I hope you still neg him for selling a fake. Otherwise he will continue to rip people off.
Return policy details: If dissatisfied with any items(s), return them as received within 7 days for full refund of the purchase price.
Tell him it's fake, send it back, get your money back, and be done with it.
Maybe he knows maybe he doesn't but you don't have to be the one who gets stuck with it.

The same question could have been asked of the Aaron.
