Should I return this coin?

I got a Franklin half off of ebay. It's a Raw 1948d with FBL and could possibly go MS63-64. Looked great on the pics. When I received it today, what didn't show on the pics and wasn't described in the auction was 4-5 ugly staple-looking scratches that start at the "U" in trust and streak all the way up to the neck and look BAD if you view the coin straight ahead. I was excited to get this thing. Now I don't like it. He doesn't specify a return in his auction. What should I do?

Can't hurt to politely ask for a return. If no luck, perhaps you can file a paypal claim, if you paid that way. Otherwise, just chalk it up to the hazards of buying "almost" sight-unseen (i.e., a photo of a raw coin.)

Contact the seller and say what you just said. Ask for a return.

Have you left positive feedback for this transaction yet?

If not, you have options such as "Item Significantly Not As Described"...the SNAD.

I don't have a good camera for pics. I did pay by paypal and haven't left feedback. Man, I love looking at the reverse, but the obverse, it's like a magnetic attraction with your eyes. Like a bad wreck. My eyes seem to be glued to these scratches

I would definately return the coin if it is scratched,no matter how nice it is otherwise.

Write the seller an e-mail letting him know that the coin has scratches on it that were not apparent in the auction image nor described in the listing, and inform him that you are returning the coin (send with delivery confirmation). Chances are the seller will be understanding and refund your money once he receives the coin.

If the seller gives you a hard time or does not refund your money, they you file an Significant Not as Descirbed (SNAD) claim to get your money back.

he angled the holder so the glare hid the scratches!!!

ask him to do a return and if he says no... out him!!!

Yes, it appears he did.

However, I would be cordial in the e-mail stating that I am returning the coin -- more likely than not he will agree to the return to not make waves. Unfortunately, he will probably re-list the coin and try to stick it to someone else. A common MO on ebay, especially with the high volume raw coin sellers.

well, I asked about a return. Guess we'll see what happens. Such a nice coin that, with these scratches, pretty much makes it junk silver. I can't bring myself to put that thing in an album.

I guess it's a wait and see. If I'm stuck with this I guess I'll just see what my local B&M will give for it.
