Game used patch inserted into BGS slabs near tab...???

I am really confused...I saw some BGS slabbed rookie cards with a piece of game worn jersey inserted into the tab near the grade....the tab also states the card and game used jersey in the title next to the sub grades and grade from BGS.
Anyone know the history behind this and Beckett's involvement with authenticating and inserting these things into their slab..
How much value does it truly add to the rookie card that was slabbed.

Recently I have seen slabs where the submitter had his own pieces used.
I did not know they offered this....is the list available on their website?

Unsure if they still do it. It was a few years back I saw this. Beckett had the bat/jersey swatches and I assume they got them authenticated at some point. I remember seeing McGwire, Sosa etc. But recently I have seen that BBCKid got one of the jerseys he owned, cut up and inserted. $ talks ?
