Whoa! One guard killed another seriously injured and the headline makes it seems like a light story. Now bracing myself for full page newspaper ads selling nickels from the "I-95 Death Coin Hoard."

    Also, $184,000 x 20 = 3,640,000 nickles [sic]. A little more than nearly 3 million.

Reporters can be so stupid, and so can their editors.

CNN's Robin Meade said, "3 million dollars in nickels, I mean 3 million of them which is a lot more than 3 million dollars."

She was talking about the melt value. image
  • This sort of reminds me of the wagon of 1907-D Dimes that tipped over in Colorado. I don't know what mintmark these Nickels bore but it looks like it will be hard to find high grade nickels from 2008 now.

Are you kidding? 3 million is a drop in the bucket compared to the total mintage for this date/MM.

The few 2008-P nickels I've seen so far look like they had been scraped across concrete anyway, but the real tragedy is the loss of life.

It's kinda nice to know who the trucking company is that ships these..............image
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    The name is LEE!

Now if someone could just certify ( slab) some of those Nickels as THE REAL Deal, ala Waffles, there might be money to be made. A few spots of dark russet coloration would really bring out the bidding ghouls. image
  • New info.....I know you all had the same idea image

I wonder if these were all 2008 or if they were misc nickels where you might be able to complete a few sets. image

Oh and best wishes to the family of the guard that lost his life. image

After reading that article, they should just let people search, and then grab them all like they did with the guy who found $300 worth of nickels. It'd be free cleanup!

I was just wondering how much this crash cost the Mint and U.S. taxpayers.

But I notice the article says..."The U.S. Treasury told Eyewitness News the private company is responsible for every nickel that was inside of that truck."
They must have some EXPENSIVE insurance.
