    Brian,
I wish your baby girl a swift recovery. All of us with kids can only imagine the angst you and your family are going through. Luckily it sounds like the doctors are on top of it early.

    Brian,
Keep the faith...our prayers are with you.
As a father of a kid that was diagnosed with cancer 7 years ago I can honestly say that a child's illness is one of the most horrible things for a parent to deal with. My son was a trooper and came through with flying colors and here's hoping your daughter does as well.

I will keep her and your family in our prayers! Hope for the best.
  • Good luck my friend. Sounds like your doctor is smart enoough to call in Infectious Disease specialists, so they will get to the problem and get her healthy. I have seen them do miracles. Probably something she picked up in the hospital? Kind of puts everything in perspective, I am anticipating a full recovery and will say a prayer for her.

    UPDATE:

Our Dr. talked to several Infectious Disease Specialists today and got mixed opinions. However, 2 them 3 seemed to be on the same page with our Dr. Our Dr. said since the blisters went away last Saturday and have not come back it appears the ointment must have worked, but the oral meds wouldn't have helped. Our baby seems to feeling well, very alert and has a great appetite. That is why the Dr's don't want to put our baby through a spinal tap and IV's over a 2 week period in the hospital at this time. That being said, our Dr will do some more tests on Friday unless anything changes, we would have to go in right away. He also said he might have the tests done at the Infectious Disease Dr, but he wasn't sure at the moment. Lastly our Dr said for the next few days, I will need to really keep an eye on our baby for any temp changes, new blisters or any behavior change. We will keep praying and go one day at a time.

Here is a photo below we had done yesterday before we got the results last night. Our 3 year old Wyatt and his baby sister Savannah.

Thanks so much for all the extra prayers and kind words. It's really scary, but we are lucky to be in a big city like Los Angeles as we have alot of great Dr.'s.

If our baby ends up in the hospital our Dr was leaning towards Millers Children's hospital in Long Beach or Children's Hospital in Los Angeles.

Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts. That is so true and I'm sure breastfeeding can only help our little angel stay strong. My wife breast fed our first one for 8 or 9 months and I would hope she's able to do the same for this one, but she seems to have a stronger appetite than her brother. I just had to give her almost 2 oz. of formula as a suplement and now she's sound asleep.

"For I know the thoughts I have for you" says the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future".

Have faith. She's a beautiful little baby and we're praying along with you.

  • Just a note - the news has been reporting tainted baby formula from China.

Please stay away from purchasing anything from China that your children would consume or ingest.

Brian - glad for the positive update !

That is great to know that at least for right now there is no spinal tap needed , that must be a load off you guy's minds . .

I don't know exactly what kind of infection that is but I hope it just goes away without any complications and I hope to hear more good news in the near future .

All the best to you and your family .

    UPDATE:
Our baby seems to be doing well. She's still eating very well and very alert, she hasn't had any new blisters since last Saturday and the ones she had have gone away. The Dr.'s are still very concerned and will do some more tests on Friday and see what course of action we will take as she has or hopefuly had such a serious staff infection. The staff infection she has is called, M.A.S.R.A. (abreviated) and I'm not sure if its the same as M.S.R.A. a few others mentioned, but our Dr. said it has been deadly with adults. The Dr.'s seemed surprised the cream we have been applying has been working so effective. Maybe it's because we didn't take a chance and got our baby in to the Dr. right away? That's the best advice I can give any parents with babies or little ones. Bring them to the Dr. right away any time you see anything not in the norm.

What a great community we have here! I'm very happy I got back into collecting cards this year and found this site as this year has been probably my toughest year ever, but also a very blessed year. I can't thank everyone enough for the great wishes and prayers I have read on this thread and in my PM's.

I feel much better than I did Monday night, but I will still be very worried until the Dr. says all is well.

Thanks again for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers,
    Brian

Well, I hope the worst is over.

I had a similar kind of infection when I was an infant except the docs didn't know what it was; they did a spinal tap, the whole nine yards. Then supposedly when they thought I was a goner, my parents through a fit and the doctors gave me some antibiotics that they didn't really expect to work as a last ditch effort, and I came out of it almost instantly.

A lot of times treatments can work without anyone really knowing why.

    POSITVE UPDATE:
    Dr. Visit today:
Our baby Savannah has not had any additional blisters or leisions appear since we first saw apprear last Friday. She has been totally normal and eating well, plus she has been gaining an oz. a day in weight. The Dr. said to continue with her meds for the next few days and if no more blisters appear all should be well and he won't have to see her for a few weeks, unless there are any changes.

On a scary note, our Dr. said he had 4 more babies come in today with M.S.R.A. and was very concerned there could be an epidemic. From what he said, the M.S.R.A. staff infection can attack the surface (which is what our baby seemed to have) or it can get into bones & blood. If our baby gets any blisters or signs of the M.S.R.A. the Infectious Disease Dr will look into more aggressive action. For now, we are blessed with a healthy baby and pray the M.S.R.A is gone for good.

From this experience I can't stress how important washing your hands can be with all these germs out there right now. Plus, anyone with babies or little ones noticing anything abnormal you need to get your little ones checked out right away. We got our baby in right away which I believe made a big difference.

Thanks again to everyone for your well wishes and prayers.

    Brian
