Does anyone know how to NOT have Paypal as a payment option on Ebay??
Everytime I sell a coin on Ebay, regardless of the price, I am forced to have Paypal as a payment option. Now a buddy of mine, who has been a member on Ebay for over 10 years, doesn't have to choose Paypal as a payment option when selling. Anyone know why? I would like to sell a few high priced coins without getting nailed by Paypal. Thanks for any responses.

He soon will have to also take Paypal as you are required to do so now. New rules kick in sometime in October.
<< <i>Smart move, I would never accept paypal for a high priced coin. All it takes is for a scammer to claim he received the package, but it wass the wrong coin and then he does a chargeback with paypal and paypal dips into your account or your bank account and kindly refunds the buyers money. Paypal is great for transactions below $500, but after that and with this economy all it takes is for a scammer to buy your coin and he could make your life miserable really fast by making up some bs story like you shipped teh wrong coin or it wasn't exactly as described. HAve your friend sell the coin who can accept checks and forget paypal. >>
Never really considered something like that happening, but now I will, thanks for the heads up. I was more concerned with the fees. Just trying to find a way around them.
I think awhile back they changed all that and even now with the new
35 cent fixed price auctions they are going to start PAY PAL ONLY which
is a real JOKE!! The Aussie Gov wouldn't let them do it there but here I
doubt anything will be said about it.

That's ridiculous, a buyer should have the choice in how they get payed. Damn you FeeBay!!! *shaking fist*
<< <i>Are all PayPal payments sourced to what the IRS regulations specifically name as non-cash sources? If not, any transaction over $10K using a "cash" source (per the IRS definition) would force a seller report. Not sure if the lot seller or PayPal would be the party required to file it. I doubt PayPal has the facilities to accommodate the law there. OTOH if all sources meet the "non-cash" definition, then there is no such problem. >>
Paypal doesn't allow transactions over $10K anyway. But I think paypal would be non-cash as it is traceable. Bank wires are what I use over $10k.
I believe that the new rules of recent require new sellers to take paypal, supposedly to enhance ebay safety. They're just looking to increase their share.
I take paypal for large and small transactions. Customers like it. I like it. i like not dealing with fees more but going to the bank to deposit checks is time consuming and expensive. Most of the guys warning vigorously not to take paypal have never been ripped of but are excited about a postulated scam. I'm sure that 99% of them haven't accepted as many paypal payments as I have. BTW, I just told a paypal customer in Italy that I'd be glad to ship to his unconfirmed Oklahoma address. you have to know a scammer from a good customer to sell successfully on eBay. --jerry

Read the last 2 bullets
o On October 20th, our paperless payments policy will begin, and checks and money orders will no longer be allowed as payment methods.
o Also by late October, you'll need to specify your handling time and return policy in your listings.
I already do number one.
I already do number two.
Whats the problem? Why would this be dangerous?
Edited to add a small correction. I do offer Money Orders as a payment option but maybe 3 or 4 out of 438 have taken me up on the offer.
Second edit: How does this make eBay a dangerous place??

I believe he was being sarcastic because alot of sellers don't except Paypal for high priced items. Yeah I love Paypal's convenience factor but the fees, along with Ebay's fees, are out of line.

I don't like the fees either but, can you do better at your local B&M? If so, sell there. If not....well, there are some alternatives, just not many, and not many with as many eyeballs....
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

This is true but remember a business credit card costs you 3% as well.
As for high priced items.....................
I don't have that problem!

merchant account credit card as an accepted payment method for their items. "
"...sellers with fewer than 100 positive FB may also be required to offer either PayPal or a
merchant account credit card as an accepted payment method for their items."
