Are Ebay winners asking for extra cards?

I started selling on ebay again after taking the summer off. A couple of winning bidders have asked for extra cards to be included. Is this common practice now after all of the changes? The cards won are less than $200, so I'm inclined not to send any extras. However I would like to hear other sellers thoughts.

I haven't had that happen for quite a while as a seller. I have, however, bought cards on ebay and additional cards were included when I received them.
  • As a seller, I've never had that happen. However, it must happen quite often because I read a lot about that on these boards.

Ive never heard of that happening. Why the hell would someone just ask a seller to send them cards they didn't win or pay for??

I don't do alot of selling, but if someone ever were to ask for extra cards, I do like the 88 Topps idea.

Just a clarification, the WINNING bidders are asking for the extra cards. After I get the Paypal, I got an email asking for extras. It happened twice from two different buyers, so I wasn't sure if this is standard practice after all of the buyer friendly changes.

Man, it is getting tough to make dime.

I get it. The winning bidder is asking you to send extra cards in addition to the card he/she won? What the hell? Who would even think of doing that? And you guys are saying it's a common practice? I'm shocked.

Wow, that's pretty bold. I wonder if, as a seller, these buyers would be put out if i asked for some extra money?

AS A SELLER I have included extra's mostly if it was a repeat buyer and I know a little about them..
never have I been asked and I would be insulted...
I just sold 2 boxes of 91 stadium club to member here.. and included 2+ boxes of commons
in case he wanted to build sets.. they were just sitting here anyway
and it cost me the same to ship em in a flat rate box
  • You really don't have any worthless cards lieing around?

I always thought the much bigger problem was people had too many that they couldn't give away to anyone, let alone a paying customer

There's a dealer in PA, I believe, who always asks for extra cards for his "grandkids." Other than that, it's never happened to me.
  • One of the last transactions before I closed my account permanently in August, was a powerseller who had won a Killebrew rookie card from me. He practically demanded that I throw in a high grade 1955 Topps common and his exact words were "let's just say it would be in your best interest to send me this card along with the Killebrew".
Also, another powerseller won a card from me in early August and one day after the auction closed gave positive feedback in all caps: "STILL HAVEN'T RECEIVED CARD, PLEASE ADVISE!"
This was almost as bad as leaving a neutral in my opinion and when I looked thru his feedback, noticed that he had done this to many other sellers. Blocked him and then closed my account about 2 weeks later.
  • Wow, just another example how Ebay is allowing buyers to hold sellers hostage.
  • Few suggestions on what to do-

    Include a note saying-
"Sorry, my cards were not given to me free, so I require payment for them"

    Send him business cards

Send him extra cards. Use them in place of cardboard to sandwich his purchase, be sure to have the tape in contact with the freebies.

Send him extra cards. But laminate them so he can have them forever and their waterproof !!!

Send him extra cards but drop a dab of Superglue on the bottom of it so he cannot retreive them from the toploader.

    Quit the hobby

Send his card. In a seperate package- Later in life without using your return address......

Get a package together with a few cards and some heavy item(s) and throw a few stamps on it mark it "Fragile, Baseball cards" (so he'll accept it when he sees it at the P.O. and drop in off in a mail collection thingie. He'll have to pay the postage due to only find a few 1987 Topps commons, scraps of steel and a note that says "You get what you paid for" or "Nothing in life is free, well the things in life that are free cause you to itch, alot".

I hope this helps. Can I have some free cards?

I am not fond of giving things away "free," unless I do so as a volunteer.

I often toss free-stuff into the package, but I won't be ordered to.

A request for "free stuff," might result in an Instant Refund to the buyer.

  • I think next time I go out to eat I'm going to ask the server to bring me a free order of wings with my burger.
  • I have had it happen a couple times lately. It wasn't that unusual in the past, but usually restricted to a school, organization or museum. Lately, it has been cheap cards.

Email them back and ask for some extra money.

    Good for you.
  • The next time anyone receives a request like that, simply PM the requestee's mailing address to me and I'll personally send them a nice assortment of cards, beautifully arranged and embedded in fresh Great Dane poop.

Not really, but wouldn't ya just love to see their face when they open THAT package!?

Maybe a stinkin' lightbulb would go off in their greedy little brains!

  • You mean I've been spending all this money on Ebay auctions and I could be getting free cards too!!! But seriously I've been selling on Ebay for 8 years and I've been asked to maybe throw in a couple of free cards I think twice(I didn't). I thinking a winning bidder asking for free cards is awfully tacky but I have given free cards a couple of times to some buyers that didn't ask. I use to sell a lot but not so much in the past couple of years.

The day that a buyer is magnanimous enough to include extra cash out of the good of their heart...

that's when ya can start giving out extra cards without reason.

That's what I'ld tell them - that's pretty darn cheesy IMO.

  • So far I have never had a buyer ask for extra cards.

I just got off the horn with Deadhelp and they said to report any and all attempts at soliciting free cards to Trust and Safety
