ebay bidder wants to know if I will ship to buddy

I have ann auction catalog (Husak) up for sale on ebay - a $75 - $100 item. I received a question from a potential bidder/buyer with zero feedback asking If I could ship to his buddy's "house". I've never had this question posed. Anyone have any experience, see any problems, or might have suggestions. I don't off-hand - I just thought that I would tell him the item was to be shipped to his attention CO (his buddy), and that item must be insured with signed delivery receipt. Also that I would not be responsible for for any loss or damage to item. What do some of the experienced sellers here say??

Paying with PayPal? If so, the answer is HELL NO!

There are cases where I would do this-but this isn't one of them. To expensive of an item to a zero feedback buyer. No protection for you and to much risk. If nothing else, tell them to have their buddy sign up on ebay.

You have to make a decision whether he is legitimate or not. The risk is a hijacked account. If he pays my Cashiers check or MO, I generally will ship wherever they want. If I'm at all concerned I call them and chat. I shipped a coin to a Columbia University dorm room recently when the Ebay addresss was San Diego. I spent a couple of days contacting the guy to make sure it wasn't hijacked (what? would a college student hijack a paypal account?). I convinced myself everthing was fine and it was. --Jerry

    Is your husak catalog signed?

if his feedback is ok...you can save any messages to include having him send you an official request for record keeping...why not

Tell him, "sorry, I've already shipped it to your confirmed address. That's what I get for speedy shipment!" Then get it in the mail post haste.

Oops..."potential buyer" not winner. Sorry, just say no.

I agree with the above, NOT if paid with paypal, but ok if paid with money order or check with time to clear. Too big a risk of a chargeback with paypal.

Those are worth $75-100??? I gave mine to a fellow collector for free (except postage), and I got stiffed on the postage. image

As for the question asked by the OP, I say, "Thanks, but no thanks."

I'd have to say no way.

I have done it for established e-bayer's but for 0 feedback I'd stick to using an established paypal address. He could bypass this by editing his address in e-bay. image

as long as his buddy pays and is confirmed by paypal.

that or give him RYK's email address for free catalogs in the future.

I would do it. A catalog is not the type of item that a scammer would target. I trust people, and have almost never had cause to regret it.

RYK not trying to add to your misery over sending out a free copy, as I think that that was a noble gesture................ but the last two Husaks went for $73 and $98, respectively ........since you chipped in for the postage add $4 bucks.

there are some good reasons for asking that

lives in another country, gift, going there to visit......

it would depend on who they wanted to pay - and they may just end up being underbidder raising the sale priceimage

You guys are confusing the signed copy with the routine copy that RYK gave away. I gave one of those away too (I even paid the shipping). I have a signed hardbound limited edition for $200. --Jerry
