How does Mechanical Doubling show on both Date and Motto?

Somebody help me out with this. I see doubling in the date, mintmark, and the end of LIBERTY. I was under the impression that mechanical doubling only affected one area of the coin.

The low flat shelflike doubling is a good indication of machine doubling. It's not a die error.

Machine doubling. Remember that the design was put on the die in one operation (hubbing) and the mint mark was put on the die in a second operation (hand punching), and if both are doubled the same way it must be something that happened after the die was finished.

Thanks, I thought it might be. Still, with the doubling on both the date and the motto, I was kinda thrown. The doublings on my 1909 VDB both go the same way...???
